In this inaugural 2009 Bible Bee Competition, the Shelby Kennedy Foundation desires to promote biblical literacy to a diverse group of youth and children. With this desire also comes practical reality, in that sufficient time to prepare materials for all of the possible special needs is not available. The purpose of accommodation is to reduce the influence of a contestant's disability on his or her test performance while seeking to ensure that the contestant is not given an unfair advantage over other contestants. Available AccommodationsLocal ContestLocal Contest Hosts will strive to provide accommodation for contestants who have physical challenges. All requests to accommodate special needs involving sight, hearing, speech, or movement should be directed to Local Hosts no later than June 1, 2009. The Local Hosts have discretion to amend oral and/or written contest requirements on a case-by-case basis for contestants with diagnosed medical conditions involving sight, hearing, speech, or movement.National ContestThe parent or legal guardian of a contestant with special needs who qualifies to participate in the National Contest held in Washington, D.C must submit the documentation used at the Local Contest level for review and approval of accommodations for the National Contest. The Shelby Kennedy Foundation has discretion to amend oral and/or written contest requirements on a case-by-case basis for contestants with diagnosed medical conditions involving sight, hearing, speech, or movement.
